What is in the catalogue?

The catalogue contains descriptions of the collections held by P&KC Archive; some are more detailed than others. Not all our collections are available in the catalogue and we will be working hard to add more information about more of our collections over the coming months. So keep checking if you can’t find what you are looking for or email the Archive.

Collections that you will find in the catalogue include descriptions of records generated by County Commissioners, county, burgh, district and parish council records, the records of Perthshire and Perth Burgh Constabularies, Justices of the Peace and Perth and Blairgowrie Customs and Excise Outports. Community collections, created by local individuals, businesses and organisations, include many of the Womens’ Rural Institute branches, trade incorporation and guild collections, estate collections like that of Rossie Priory, business records such as Pullar’s of Perth and J&G Wilson, writers in Kinross, and papers of individuals such as golfer Jessie Valentine and poet Helen Cruickshank.

Other features of the catalogue include the hierarchy of each collection, rather like a family tree, which shows you where each record belongs within its collection. This contextual information is helpful in guiding you to other records which, because of the description, may not have appeared in your initial search.

There are also FAQ’s about the Archive and its collections, and a glossary of the terms that you may come across in the descriptions, as well as links to other Archives which hold records relevant to Perth and Kinross, and other catalogue portals. Finally, if you have any questions or suggestions about how we can improve this catalogue, please use the feedback option.
