TitlePerth Typographical Society
HistoryThe Perth Graphical Association was originally formed in 1855 as the Perth Typographical Society. The society represented the interests of those employed in Perth in typesetting, printing and related activities. It was a branch of the Scottish Typographical Association which had been formed in 1853. From 1971 the society was known as the Perth Typographical Association and then as the Perth Graphical Association in line with the name change made by the Scottish Typographical Association to the Scottish Graphical Association in 1973. In 1975, despite objections from Perth, the Scottish Graphical Association merged with the Society of Graphical and Allied Trades, to form SOGAT 1975. A further merger with the National Society of Operative Printers, Graphical and Media Personnel formed SOGAT 1982. A further amalgamation in 1991 with the National Graphical Association 1982 established the Graphical, Paper and Media Union.
